After officially abdicating my post of Hades, Lord of the Crits to Lola, I've decided to reclaim that part of me. Why? Cause I'm stressed and I need a form of venting that, and what better way than to tear apart our snivelling government's pathetic excuses?

And here's my article - I may do another after my piano, not sure - DPM lee on free speech: Have a View

"Speak up, speak intelligently and be prepared for your views to be examined."

In short, prepare for trouble if we don't like what you're saying. Babe, you gotta get a life! You've been repeating the same lame excuses for the past what, 4 years? And if you're still wondering why people don't believe them, take a good look at what you say. There's no way of threatening people and STILL having them happy-wacky.

"The government encourages them to have a view. Many people don't have a view. For example if you ask them about the recession, you might not hear a good answer because they haven't thought about it properly."

Ad hominem. Attack on person. What this dear babe means here is that: Some people may speak, but they talk crap. Actually, personally speaking, I feel that my judgement here is rather farfetched, but not without reasons. Lee has no reason to go around insulting people (what a fine way to win support yeah?) unless he's trying to undermine a certain group of people. Three guesses who? And I wonder why people are unsatisfied.

"There has to be a certain maturity. Your arguements have to be open to a certain scrutiny and judgement"
"If you raise an economical or politcal issue, you must be prepared to have a robust debate."
"...very few topics that Singaporeans could not discuss, the exception being anything defamatory."

This is getting boring. I wonder how Lee can stand writing this speech, seeing that it's just repeating the same points OVER AND OVER AGAIN!! In short: You must be prepared to die if you say anything defamatory about us, or else you're an immature brat. Hun, you give good, I gotta admit, but this issue is strong. There's no way around it. People will know if you're trying to shut them up.

"As for the speakers' Corner and its gradual decline into obscurity, Mr. Lee said he did not see the need for it with all the media forums that are available for opinion exchange. "Why do they want to go and stand in the sun?" he said."

That's the biggest load of crap I've heard in a century. In fact, this excuse is so...well, lame (how many times have I used this word already? Okay, pathetic.) For one thing, not many people know much about these internet sites, which is probably why the government let them say what they want, with a bare few threats here and there, apart from the fact that they can now say, "Look at the internet forums! We're allowing free speech!" Lookie here hun, if people are willing to debate for so damned long (take a look at the dates of the articles) for this Hong Lim Park, what are the chances that they'll abandon it after so much of hard work? And as for the sun, well, if people can go on strikes and demonstrations to get their point across, I doubt the people will shut up and settle for a measley little forum that gawd knows how many people go to anyway. I'm not sure whether you've experienced it or not, but when people are passionate, they tend to go to all lengths. You sure it's the hot sun and not the lack of something involving bankrupting, jailing and many, many years that's deterring people from the place?

There's not much about this article, really. Fact being, DPM lee is just trying to save face from the article by the Agence France Presse which was short, succinct and to the point, AND points out all the loopholes that are in our lee-proclaimed Freedom of Expression. Lee's article is dated a mere 15 days after THAT article. Put it together, guys. This is just bickering. One says, "Oh, you say singaporeans may speak freely. I've got facts here. You're lying." The other is, "Oh, you're immature if you don't allow us to cross-examine your words if we don't like it."
